Project Objectives

To generate better conditions and strengthen the organization processes of cooperatives, with a special focus on the production chain and fair trade.

Summary

Thanks to the campaign ‘STOP WORLD POVERTY’ GVC’s project actively strengths the production and organization capacities of local cooperatives.

In Nicaragua, the export of coffee of local cooperatives was increased and consolidated, as well as certified fair trade. Moreover, the share from export increased both for the italian cooperatives, marketing in Italy through COIND, and UCA production of ‘Transfair’. These achievements were possible thanks to a consistent training program on management and  board governance, and the creation of a national and international database of enterprises marketing agricultural products affiliated with UCA, with 1400 direct beneficiaries involved.

In Uganda, the productivity and household income of producers was increased as well as their capacity for product storage and technical knowledge. The project was able to support 1500 members of 3 cooperatives in consolidating information exchange networks, accessing new markets and self-help skills.
