Project Objectives

The project operated in the context of the Agrifam project, cofunded by the Italian Ministery of Foreign Affairs and local funding.

Summary

This project worked in the general context of the overall AGRIFAM project, co-financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local funding, and it specifically recovered the deteriorated lands, organized work into a cooperative culture and developed specialized productive activities (coffee, cheeses, cured meats) at high aggregate levels. The Region of Emilia-Romagna (RER) project promoted exchange between our advanced regional agriculture and its organizational forms, and the family-run agricultural activities in Alto Paranaiba.

The activities included:

Recovery of deteriorated lands for fruit and vegetable production, as well as the production of oil for biodiesel;

• Technical training and scholarship funds for those receiving redistributed lands through the agrarian Reform;

• Favoring, through the fundamental contribution of the Emilia-Romagna Region, organization into cooperatives for work purposes in order to avoid the isolation of farmers;

• Reinforcing coffee production in the region in order to favor exportation to Italy through the fair trade circuit.
