Project Objectives

MADE project aims to develop marine aquaculture in Egypt. Its specific Objective was the implementation of pilot action in aquaculture through comprehensive assistance to private and public Egyptians operators of the sector.

Summary

The project stimulated the growth of Egyptian companies throughout the Mediterranean coast, taking into account the strategic approach to Responsible Development. Public institutions have been supported in providing to private companies guidelines and conducive environment for the development of aquaculture. The project included four components: - Egyptian private sector support by the technical center of the fishing Alexandria - Strengthening of the control unit GAFRD / Fish / Cairo to improve the quality of products, - Know-how transfer on marine aquaculture (hatchery for the production of high quality seeds) - Technology of marine aquaculture cage (pilot production unit in cages) Lega Pesca (subcontracted by CIHEAM IAMB) is responsible for providing expertise for the construction and development of mariculture cages, the transfer of technology management capacity and the construction of a pilot plant Bardawil. Technical assistance has also focused on the development of a study on the potential economic activity, a comprehensive study on the environmental impact of mariculture development in Egypt, indicating a mapping of the main areas of choice, and activities to support the definition of administrative and institutional structure that can support program for aquaculture development in Egypt
