Project Objectives

General Objective: To contribute to poverty reduction of vulnerable rural populations and ethnic minorities in the districts of Ampara and Kandy - Sri Lanka.

Specific Objective: To promote a development model based on the support of small producers of organic farming among rural communities, residents in the districts of Ampara and Kandy, to integrate  organic farming and community tourism.

Summary

Based on a value chain approach, the project will support small producers of organic farming i) to improve food security (through the development of domestic horticulture, rice farming and biological breeding),  ii) to contribute to income growth through the introduction/extension of the cultivation and processing of products with high added value, and iii) to sale their products on local and international markets (especially organic rice, spices, cocoa and medicinal herbs, processed foods, such honey, yogurt, etc.).
