Project Objectives
Support for reconstruction and services
Summary
The three projects were the result of a specific inspection in the days following the earthquake. 1) Support for the construction of "House of reception Luigi Giussani," in Waf Jeremie, extreme edge of Cité Soleil, extreme outskirts of Port au Prince. Soul of the initiative has been Busto Arsizio’s Sister Marcella Cattozza, belonging to the Franciscan Missionary Fraternity and also supported by the association “In Cammino con Sorella Marcella”. It is a multipurpose center consisting in 13 buildings, six of which are built to accommodate 90 orphans. The House of Hospitality is part of the Vilaj Italyen program in which a health center, a primary school with attached nursery school for 550 children have been activated. 2) Infrastructure reconstruction and reactivation of social and educational services for the benefit of urban and rural communities of Léogan.
The project included:
- Support for agricultural production, improvement of existing infrastructure or damaged;
- Support for forms of income generation also according to the processing of products;
- Support social skills on the proper use of food, especially for children.
The intervention was carried out in collaboration with local NGOs and local organizations of producers. The project was coordinated with the Reconstruction Plan of the Government.
3) Training in first and advanced aid
The project took care of the training and preparation of about 80 Haitians choosing voluntary workers in the area and educating them, step by step, on the techniques of first aid and reanimation. An equipped ambulance has been bought and used.
