Project Objectives
Impact: Improved sustainability and viability of the Cooperative Movement in Malawi
Outcome: A better governed and more inclusive cooperative movement able to drive innovations and environmentally sustainable co-operative business development in rural areas across Malawi
Outputs:
- More women are leaders of their cooperatives and are engaging in a wider cooperative network
- Young people are adopting co-operatives as a source of livelihood
- Co-operatives are using environmentally sustainable technologies in production of goods and services
- Stronger co-operative organisations which are promoting, uniting and developing the co-operative movement in Malawi
Summary
This project aims to provide pathways that enable the growing cooperative movement in Malawi to become more economically and environmentally sustainable and inclusive. It encourages young people to engage more in co-operative enterprises as a viable livelihood option; empowers women to put themselves forward for leadership positions in their co-operative; promotes more environmentally sustainable methods of agriculture; create awareness on the use of renewable energy technologies; and facilitates the capacity building of co-operative support organisations through strengthening the national apex and scoping the feasibility of a national co-operative college.
