Project Objectives

Construction of a modular hospital in containers in the Port-au-Prince

Summary

The project had as its objective the realization in the area of Port-au-Prince at a hospital in modular containers that would provide a service of orthopedic surgery and general emergency, while also offering training and support to the Ministry of Health in the work of recovery and reinforcement of local resources. The new hospital was opened in 2012: thanks to 3 operating rooms - as well as a room intensive care and physiotherapy - the center will be able to provide free medical care for emergency trauma, surgery, internal and pediatric surgery, 24 hours a day. In a country where 75% of the population lives below the poverty line and the reference structures are largely inappropriate, the MSF center (called "Nap Kenbe," which in Creole means "feel good") will help to improve the 'access to surgical care for the population of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince.
