Project Objectives

BRS Microfinance Coop invests through loans or loans capital in specialized microfinance organizations in Africa, Latin America and Asia. This cooperative is a joint initiative of BRS vzw, KBC and Cera. At the end of 2019 their contribution to the capital was 17.5 million euros.
Since October 27, 2016, individuals can subscribe to the cooperative A shares. In 2019 1681 associates had subscribed to a capital of 4.659.500 euros. At 31.12.2019 the capital of BRS Microfinance Coop was 22.159.500 euros.
On 31.12.2019 BRS Microfinance Coop had 14.1 million euros of outstanding loans in 12 MFIs in 9 countries. These institutions reach jointly 2.9 million customers.
The investment committee of BRS Microfinance Coop evaluates the microfinance institutions on their financial and social performance. In 2017 started the collaboration with MFX Solutions.
This makes it possible to grant loans in multiple local currencies which ensures that the MFIs don't have to take the financial risk that goes along with exchange rates.
