Project Objectives

The project improved the professional preparation and the educational programs of IEI personnel within the municipality of Belo Horizonte and to promote the exchange of experiences in childhood education between Italy and Brazil, in synergy with the Educaçao project, co-financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Summary

“A School for the Future” guaranteed the good conditions in health and hygiene, accessibility and security, which allowed the community Institution of Children's Education (IEI), Clara e Francisco, currently operating within the Belo Horizonte municipal health care service to remain within this service and continue to host approximately 117 children from 0 to 6 years of age.

The activities include:

• Co-financing the construction of a new primary school in Aguas Claras for 270 children;

• Training for the teachers carried out by Coopselios pedagogues during two field missions;

• Health and Hygiene Recovery of the community IEI Clara e Francisco according to the law (kitchen and bathroom able to be accessed by disabled children) in collaboration with the project financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) to increase the school's capacity to host 117 children instead of the current 86;

• Internal recovery and restructuring of an already existing room in the nursery, as well as a multifunctional room, along with repair of outside walls including waterproofing. Ordering of external playgrounds with particular attention to school security through the construction of a fence and an educational garden, increasing the 'green' surface area of the school by 400 m2 and at the same time contributing to the school's self-sufficiency as far as food consumption;

• Supply of tools and educational materials for the IEI Clara e Francisco;

• Exchange of experiences in the field of children's education between Italy and Brazil through a mission to Coopselios and Reggio Children educational structure in Italy in which 8 teachers and directors from Belo Horizonte will participate, taking part in informational workshops, training and exchange.
