Project Objectives

The Agua Sana project improved the sanitary, hygienic, and health conditions in the Sud-Yungas Province through the expansion and restructuring of water supply sources, restoration of pubic cisterns, construction of new fountains, and implementation of awareness campaigns for the promotion of public hygiene.

Summary

The project, that improved the sanitary and hygienic conditions of the population of Sud-Yungas Province by strengthening the infrastructure and by awareness-raising campaigns, brought benefits to the 32,000 inhabitants of the municipalities involved and to the 6,000 children who obtained a service of School Medicine.

The activities include:

• Creation of a specialized department to monitor the quality of water for domestic use and drinking, which monitors the environmental impact of public and private actions carried out in the region;

• Restructuring and modernization of structures for water access;

• Awareness campaign on the issue of public hygiene and correct use of water resource;

• Self-managed local production of hydraulic and building materials necessary for the work on water infrastructure and the integrated water cycle.
