Development of urban agriculture in Rosario
Project Objectives
The project improved the socio-economic conditions of the Municipality of Rosario's population, by reinforcing the eco-sustainable productive model and by enhancing the city's green spaces.
Summary
The project addressed to 700 urban farmers, of which 60% women working with agro ecologic practices, natural cosmetic and vegetables, biologic fertilizers, and to a network of almost 300 agro ecologic consumers, brought benefits to the entire population of the Municipality of Rosario (almost 900.000 people). Green spaces and the natural and touristic landscape were valued and the productive model based on biological intensive production and associative dynamics were reinforced.
The activities include:
• Creation of the Rosario's Urban Farmers Network;
• Extension and diversification of the local value chain thanks to the creation of biological community garden, production, storage and seed transformation centers, realization of a productive plant for seeds, fertilizers, insecticides and aromatic plants;
• Strengthening and diversification of the urban gardens' marketing channels thanks to an awareness raising campaign, an information program on agro ecologic consuming and creation of the Agroecologic Consumers' Network;
• Enhancing the natural and turistic dimension of the urban spaces in Rosario, thanks to the organization and realization of turistic itineraries, the creation of 5 training classes and the realization of an International Seminar on Urban Agriculture.
