Cooperation of DGRV and the Co-operative Alliance of Kenya (CAK)
Summary
The joint goal of DGRV and CAK is to optimize the management of selected agricultural cooperatives in a way that allows them to provide growth-stipulating services to their small-holder members. CAK as the umbrella organization in cooperation with other cooperative organizations will offer more demand-oriented services. The focus will be on dairy cooperatives.The project offers trainings in particular on cooperative organization and management topics. The cooperatives in their function as companies will be more efficient and productive, and provide competitive services to their members. The aim is to improve the productivity, efficiency, and sustainability of Kenya’s agricultural sector in the long run.Important fields of action are:
- Sector analyses, identification of pilot cooperatives and their needs in the field of dairy business
- Development and implementation of a strategy for needbased services and structured human resource development of CAK
- Qualification of professionals and leaders, in particular for governance, management, and control systems including training of trainers
- Development of recommendations helping to improve the Kenyan system of agricultural cooperatives in the field good governance, management, internal control systems, finance and auditing
- Exchange of experience for the dissemination of lessons learnt from the pilot cooperatives as well as strengthening of national and international networks in the cooperative sector
The project is implemented on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture. Partners in Kenya are the Ministry for Industrialization and Enterprise Development, which is responsible for the cooperative sector, the national umbrella organization CAK (Co-operative Alliance of Kenya Ltd.), as well as cooperative education institutes and national cooperative divisional association
