Project Objectives

To support ‘Casa del Joven Voluntario’ which promotes campaigns and activities for the protection of child rights through a child-to-child approach.

Summary

Thanks to the members of COOP Northeast and Boorea ‘Casa del Joven Voluntario’ is established in the poorest area of Nicaragua. The project’s goal is to strengthen the capacities of young people to exercise their rights on different issues: sexual and reproductive rights, child trafficking and prostitution, prison and detention conditions and child abuse. The creation of a shared space (the center) is to initiate a dialogue among young people (child-to-child approach involving young voluntaries) and  the community as well as society as a whole, including decision makers. Part of the action is to provide scholarships, material and opportunities to attend school and the creation of social defence networks. Training workshops, seminars, forum discussions, and campaigns are organized to ensure that thousands of children and young people from the poorest families in the area become empowered actors of change reducing their risk of becoming victims of economic and sexual exploitation.

Thanks to the activities of “Casa del Joven Voluntario” more than 5000 children, throughout these years,  have received care and attention and have been saved from potential exploitation or abuse.
