Project Objectives

Improving the living conditions of the population of the area of Lago Agrio, strengthening citizen participation in the implementation of a plan comprehensive of education, awareness and management of municipal solid waste

Summary

The project aims to achieve a global waste management plan and apply it in 15 pilot districts by building some of the structures needed for new landfill, which will be used to boot the system of differentiation of municipal solid waste (MSW) for the exploitation of the organic material that will be used to produce of fertilizers and their marketing. Specifically, the project will strengthen the operations of the Dirección de Environment of the Municipality of Lago Agrio in the management of MSW, will create a social micro-enterprise dedicated to the separation and recycling of part of MSW consists of a Transfer Center for different materials, involving the informal waste pickers who are currently working in the municipal landfill, and a separate collection systems will be implemented through the application of the Global Plan for the management of MSW in 15 pilot districts, in 5 public or private enterprises and in two of the markets or fairs of the city. It will also be designed and carried out a program of environmental awareness and education on waste reduction, recycling and reuse of MSW.
