Systems and Financial Instruments for Agriculture in Togo
Project Objectives
Fostering Togo's food safety and sovereignty through an exchange of experiences and competences between italian cooperatives and Togo's rural organisations
Summary
For the first three years a series of operations will be made in the financial, cultural and agricultural sectors, along with supporting the develop of cooperativism in rural areas (especially regarding some of Togo's most important productions like cereals, fruits and fishing) and of the national farmer confederation. Short, medium and long term cut rated funds will be made in favour of two of Togo's microfinance institutions in order to help farmers to access credit and to promote investments in the agricultural sector. Experiences exchanges between italian and togolese cooperatives sectors will be facilitated and a sensibilization of public opinion on agricultural and food problems will be made. Some goals have been accomplished: one of these is an analysis of Togo's microfinancial system and the creation of partnership links between local farmers and at the international level. More or less 24 projects made by associations or cooperatives of farmers have been funded with 245654 euros: most of them are about agricultural products and poultry production. Tutoring Imf's partners on credit and organisational set up is another action that has taken place, along with the creation of a solid network between microfinancial operators, farmers associations and other important actors in the rural sector.
