Strengthening civil Society Involvement in Housing
Project Objectives
The objective of the project is to enhance a strong network of civil society organisations that are capable of articulating and contributing to addressing housing and habitat issues in Zambia.
Summary
Civic Forum on Housing and Habitat is a platform of civil society organizations dealing in housing and habitat issues. CFHH will in the period 2014- 2016 facilitate dialogue between communities, decision makers and other relevant stakeholders through hosting of the Zambia housing forum. This forum will provide an opportunity to the majority poor to engage in the consultative processes of policy change. CFHH works closely with its 21 Network members comprising of 63,611 women and 12,200 men spread around the country. The project objectives are, 1) Increased access to land and housing for the majority urban and rural poor men and women in Zambia 2) Empowered communities with capacity to demand for their land and housing rights and able to hold civic leaders accountable 3) Empowered Network Members with knowledge on climate change adaption and mitigation and 4) Increased participation in land use planning and improved tenure security for the urban and rural poor living in unplanned settlements in Zambia. Expected outcome results are 1) A Harmonized policy framework for urban and rural development,2) Strengthened Community voice in slums/informal settlements in designing and planning for development projects,3) Accountable resource allocation and expenditure by development stakeholders in slum areas,4) Planned settlements and development road map agreed with stakeholders,5) Increased tenure security for the urban poor living in informal settlements and 6) Increased secure tenure for women in rural areas
