Emergency earthquake in Haiti
Project Objectives
Health care at the hospital in Lubutu, to guarantee the population free access to quality care.
Summary
The project - made possible thanks to the MSF Emergency Fund - has allowed to bring immediate aid and medical assistance to the Haitian people affected by the earthquake of 12 January 2010. After the earthquake, MSF has increased the presence of its staff on site, increased from 800 to 3,400 people, in 26 hospitals and clinics, in the capital and in the rest of the country. Between 12 January and 31 October 2010, MSF has treated more than 358,000 people, performed more than 16,570 surgeries and given birth to more than 15,100 children, the NGO also made use of fixed stations and mobile clinics to provide primary medical care and relief supplies of the many displaced persons camps in Port-au-Prince. The project has also enabled to provide water and sanitation to displaced people in the slum of Cité Soleil. On 2 January 2011, MSF teams had treated 91,000 cases of cholera in the 47 treatment centers around the country.
