Project Objectives

Improving the socio-economic condition of the population of the area of Hermel, in the Bekaa Valley, through the enhancement of the environmental conditions of the Orontes rive impacted by aquaculture

Summary

In the Hermel region, the Halieus NGO has participated – in the context of the ROSS program – a post-emergency initiative divided in 3 phases. These activities regarded redeveloping the agricultural sectors (in particular fishery) of the regions affected by the conflict in 2006 with the aim of providing the local community with better social, economic and environmental conditions. The phases have been:  ROSS I: “Recovery and consolidation of income-generating production activities in aid of the population of Chouwaghir and Hermel in the North of the Beqaa Valley”, Identification code: ROSS/L06-A1420 (lead agency: NGO Movimondo).  ROSS II: “Consolidation of local land management capacities with a view to safeguarding the environmental heritage of the Assi river, Beqaa Valley”, code ROSS/L08-C0023 (lead agency: ONG Movimondo).  ROSS II: “Territorial management of the Hermel Region: optimisation and completion of the assessment and monitoring studies conducted with a view to the safeguarding and sustainable development of the Assi river area” (lead agency: ONG ARCS).
