Project Objectives

Through the promotion of cooperative self-help, the project contributes to the economic and social participation low income and disadvantaged  population, aiming at increase of their incomes and employment generation/stability, reduction of poverty and thus the improvement of economic and social structures in selected countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Summary

DGRV follows a multi-level approach: The individual cooperative (micro level) needs a consistent business orientation, adequate internal organization and well-trained managers and staff. In addition, the cooperative should be part of an integrated network (governed by subsidiarity principle) at the meso level in order for it to benefit from services provided by specialized central enterprises and associations, such as training and auditing. At the macro-level, the governments are encouraged to create adequate legal and regulatory frameworks for cooperative activities.
