Nicola Danti, Member of the European Parliament and EP Rapporteur on the Collaborative economy, together with Cooperatives Europe will host the event titled “A cooperative vision for the collaborative economy” on 7th of November at the European Parliament.

Reinventing consumption and production, boosting innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering digitalization… The recent years have seen a boom of a ‘collaborative economy’, demonstrating the relevance, efficiency and infinite potentials of peer-to-peer interactions. Empowered by the emergence of digital technologies, individuals and organizations invent models to produce, consume, finance, learn and govern in a horizontal and participative way. However, the development of collaborative economy is not free from side economic and social effects. In the absence of any clear European project or guidance, rising tensions around main platform businesses has led national and local governments to take uncoordinated regulatory measures, with two main consequences: uncertain legal, and fragmentation of European single market.

Across Europe, cooperatives have developed a patchwork of innovative models making the collaborative economy inclusive, community-led and people-centered, connecting technological innovation with social, economic and environmental needs. The event “A cooperative vision for the collaborative economy” will bring together European policy-makers, representatives of the cooperative movement, academics, leaders of cooperative enterprises and start-ups, to shape a European project on the future of the collaborative economy. Cooperatives Europe’s vision paper will be presented and released at this occasion.
