Workshop: How to mobilize the digital for a social and economic added value: an exchange of good practices

05.05.2022

What?

A participatory workshop with testimonials and discussions hosted by ConcertES, UNIPSO, Cooperatives Europe, Social Good Accelerator at the conference on the social economy and the future of Europe.

This conference, organised French Presidency of the Council of the EU, took place in Strasbourg. It was an opportunity to debate and exchange views among decision-makers and social economy stakeholders concerning the role that social economy can play for the future of Europe. Furthermore, by bringing together all the social economy actors, it made possible to discuss about solutions for people and the planet to make social economy scale up.

Conclusions of the event?

1.Develop information sharing and digital commons for a more ethical and social digital economy

Promoting the social economy also requires the promotion of a more ethical and social digital environment, with social economy values such as cooperation and co-construction at its heart. This means promoting equitable access to resources by exploring data decentralization and alternative models for digital knowledge- sharing based on open-source and interoperable standards between Member States and social economy organisations (SEOs).

2. Promote digital democratization through education and training.

It is essential to promote a democratic digital culture, both for basic digital literacy and advanced technology, through community education and targeted training. Not only is it a factor for inclusion and accessibility, especially for vulnerable populations and those at risk of exclusion, but it is also a factor for development and scale up for social economy enterprises.

3. Increase dialogue and “translation” between SEOs and developers for better competitiveness and attractivness

In the face of the digital giants, digital SEOs still lack competitiveness when it comes to interface and design. The objective is to facilitate communication between social economy organisations and developers in order to make open-source digital tools more attractive. Dedicated funds must be set up to allow these organizations to face the financial burden that these investments represent and innovate in this area.
