MEPs discussed and voted on a resolution on coordinated EU action to combat the pandemic and its consequences

During an extraordinary plenary session held on 16-17 April and following a debate with the Council and the Commission on how to address the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak in the EU, MEPs have voted on a resolution on the latest Commission proposals for coordinated EU action to combat the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.

Most MEPs welcomed the plans announced by Von der Leyen to ensure massive investment with the aim of creating a more resilient, green and digital economy. The vote is a green light for the European Commission to act on the measures adopted.

Cooperatives Europe welcomes MEPs’ vote on this resolution, which would allow Europe to rapidly ensure assistance to countries and people in need. Moreover, many enterprises and mostly SMEs, like cooperatives, are suffering from major impact on their businesses due to the outbreak (see Coop response to the Covid-19 outbreak). Therefore, Cooperatives Europe welcomes and calls for stronger solidarity in Europe and urges authorities to put in place recovery actions to ensure a sustainable economic and social future for European citizens.
