Cooperatives Europe has joined the call of SDG Watch for the EU to adopt, as a matter of urgency, an overarching strategy to guide the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

SDG Watch is a European cross-sectoral civil society alliance, set up when the 2030 Agenda was adopted in September 2015, in order to monitor its implementation.

SDG Watch has addressed an open letter to the president of the European Commission, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker. Civil Society Organisations stress that little progress has been done at EU level since the agenda was adopted. While some actions have been taken on the external dimension through the work of Commissioner Mimica and HRVP Mogherini with regard to tackling global challenges, all services of the European Union must act in a coordinated way. Coordination must not only be ensured between EU Directorate Generals, but also between the EU and its Member States.

Additionally, members of SDG Watch Europe are asking President Juncker to consult fully with civil society in drawing up SDG implementation strategies and therefore urge the launch of a transparent and inclusive public consultation on the implementation of the whole 2030 Agenda.
